September 27, 2026
NEW DELHI — Oberoi Hotels & Resorts has released details of The Oberoi Sukoonvilas, Wadi Safar, a luxury resort under development in Saudi Arabia that is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027.
According to the company, it will be the first hotel to open in Wadi Safar, a developing destination about 30 minutes from Riyadh and close to At-Turaif, the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Diriyah. Wadi Safar is being planned around heritage, culture, wellbeing, nature, sport and luxury hospitality.
Featuring more than 60 standalone villas and 10 branded residences, the resort will be situated atop a 230-foot cliff on more than 37 acres and draw design inspiration from Najdi architecture. Oberoi says that design elements are expected to include shaded courtyards, water features and indoor-outdoor living areas.
Vikram Oberoi, CEO of Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, said Wadi Safar offers the company an opportunity to create a resort connected to the area’s history, culture and natural setting.
“Building on Diriyah’s vision for a destination that celebrates Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage, The Oberoi Sukoonvilas has been thoughtfully conceived as a sanctuary of understated luxury, where architecture, landscape and hospitality come together in harmony,” Oberoi said.
Aedas, an international architecture and design practice with an extensive hospitality portfolio, is designing the resort, with interiors by luxury hospitality design firm BLINK Design Group.
Jeremy Canivet, general manager of The Oberoi Sukoonvilas, Wadi Safar, said the resort has been designed to connect guests with the destination through villas, gardens, dining and wellness experiences.
The resort’s dining venues will include Yatra, a contemporary Indian restaurant curated by Chef Rohit Ghai; Linnet, a cafe and pastry concept led by Lily Vanilli; Beyla, an international restaurant; and poolside dining.
Wellness amenities will include the ASMI by Oberoi wellness program, hammams, indoor wellness pools, fitness facilities and a 213-foot infinity pool overlooking Wadi Safar.
“The opening of The Oberoi Sukoonvilas will mark an important milestone for Wadi Safar as the first hotel to welcome guests to this extraordinary destination,” said Jerry Inzerillo, group CEO of Diriyah Company. “Oberoi Hotels & Resorts’ commitment to exceptional hospitality, craftsmanship and a strong sense of place aligns closely with our vision for Wadi Safar.”
Diriyah is a 5.4-square-mile development near Riyadh and is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative. The area includes At-Turaif, the former adobe capital city of the First Saudi State, which was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.
Diriyah Company, which launched in January 2023 and is part of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund portfolio of giga-projects, is responsible for developing Diriyah as a mixed-use destination with hospitality, retail, residential, cultural, educational and office components.
