Banyan Tree Samui Partners with Studio to Add Local Artisan Products

KOH SAMUI, Thailand — Banyan Tree Samui has partnered with T.A.I Studio to sell a collection of handwoven bags and baskets made by artisans in southern Thailand through the resort’s onsite Banyan Tree Gallery Samui boutique.
The products are made from krajood sedge and banana tree fiber grown and gathered in Phatthalung. T.A.I Studio works with a network of growers, weavers and other makers in the region who contribute hand-loomed cotton, embroidery, leatherwork and finishing.
T.A.I Studio was founded by husband-and-wife Nick and Sai Rawling to connect traditional materials and craftsmanship with the hospitality industry.
“When these traditions are thoughtfully integrated into contemporary hospitality, something else becomes possible,” Nick Rawling said. “Visitors encounter a culture that is living rather than displayed.”
Banyan Tree Samui Spa & Gallery Manager Naphasawan Badklang said the partnership aligns with the company’s focus on local communities and environmental sustainability.
“By showcasing these bags at Banyan Tree Gallery Samui, we help promote the artisans’ stories and craftsmanship to a wider audience,” Badklang said.
Banyan Tree Gallery sells locally made handicrafts as well as the hospitality company’s bath, body and aromatherapy products. Banyan Tree said its gallery program has commissioned more than 1.2 million products, supported 339 communities and collaborated with 240 nonprofit organizations over the past three decades.
Banyan Tree Samui has 88 pool villas, each with a private infinity pool. The resort also has three restaurants, a fitness center, kids’ club, meetings and events facilities and a spa. Its Saffron restaurant was included in the 2025 Michelin Guide.
