The Hythe Names Kevin Shields General Manager, Douglas Farnsworth Executive Chef

VAIL, Colo. — The Hythe, a Luxury Collection Resort, Vail has appointed Kevin Shields general manager and Douglas Farnsworth executive chef.

Shields will oversee resort operations, including guest services, food and beverage, sales and marketing, revenue strategy and associate engagement. He also will work with DiamondRock Hospitality, Vail Resorts and Marriott International.

Shields has a background in luxury hotels and destination resorts and has maintained a connection to the Vail community for more than 15 years.

Farnsworth will oversee the resort’s four dining concepts — Revel Lounge, Margie’s Haas, Mountain Ration and 10th Mountain — as well as its banquet operations.

His hospitality and restaurant experience includes the Historic Mission Inn Hotel & Spa in California and leadership positions with Marriott, Hilton Hotels and Troon Golf. He also served as executive chef at 555 East American Steakhouse and regional culinary manager for King’s Seafood Company.

Farnsworth helped conceptualize Meat On Ocean in Santa Monica, Calif., where he developed a dry-aged beef program that was later adopted by other restaurants within the company. Most recently, he was culinary director at Xperience Restaurant Group, overseeing multiple restaurant brands.

The Hythe is located at the base of Vail Mountain near the Eagle Bahn Gondola. The resort has 344 rooms, 22 suites, 16 residences, four dining concepts, a spa and 29,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
